That would be so nice, wouldn't it? To talk with your blog visitors in real time. Your blog visitors talking with each other, leaving messages for you to see when you go online. That's a sure way to make a few of them stay a little longer (and keep coming back regularly).

One gadget that can help in this respect is a chatbox for your site/blog. This post is about one such shoutbox called ShoutMix shoutbox. You can easily obtain a free shoutbox for your site from ShoutMix. Here's the link to the website that provides the shoutbox.

This is how the shoutbox looks like.

Using the shoutbox is a three step process;

  1. You create a login account.
  2. Choose the type of shoutbox style you like, and
  3. Place the code in your your page/template.
Create an account by supplying your user name, password and email address.

After clicking the continue button, you'll be taken to a page where you can choose from amongst 4 compact and two wide shoutbox styles. Fill in the verification code and click continue. You'll be instructed to log into your control; panel to use the shoutbox. Click "go to my control panel now". Enter your password to continue. Click login button.

At the top you'll see the menu bar. From "Quick Start" menu choose "Get Codes".

Choose "Place shoutbox on webpage".

Enter width and height for your shoutbox, select whether you want frame border around the shoutbox.

Click inside the code box and select whole text by using Ctrl + A keyboard combination. That's all the work you need to do at the developers site.

Hop along to your site and place the shoutbox in a side bar. You can view my shoutbox here.
