Post to your blog from within Firefox!

Now wouldn't it be nice if somehow we could just write a post from within our favorite browser (I don't want to annoy and loose my IE friends but the truth is that Firefox is much better; Oh I also occasionally use IE). Some of us write about websites or web pages we find interesting and want to share with others (well there is an easier way to do that by using the social bookmarking sites). So what we usually do is open our blog writing page in one tab and the page we are describing in another tab (and maybe our blog's main page in a third tab just to see how the new blog posting appears to our visitors). Now switching multiple times between tabs is quite painful and annoying. So is their an easier solution?. The answer is yes there is.

The answer is called ScribeFire. Its a Firefox extension created by Christopher Finkle (I'll let you know where to get it in a moment). Here is a screen shot of ScribeFire in use.

In the upper half you can see a web page that is open in Firefox, while in the lower half of the browser is the ScribeFire editor open. You just work from within the same tab. No need to hop back and forth.

All you have to do is to configure a blog (you can add multiple blogs too if you like). Configuring a blog is an easy chore. ScribeFire has a configuration wizard which helps you set up your blog in a matter of minutes. It recognizes many blogs automatically.

So before I go on describing some of the other great features this add-on provides, here is the page link from where you can install this editor into your Firefox browser.

Here are some of the cool features of this editor;

  • An editor that supports WYSIWYG editing.
  • You can bookmark your post directly to Del.Icio.US bookmarking site right from within the editor.
  • Add ons and themes integrated support (not working at the moment).
  • You can also view (and read) latest posts about ScribeFire in the about tab.
  • A help link, link to support forums and a link to report bugs and request more features (they are also not working at he moment as ScribeFire website is under construction).
  • You can navigate to different browser tabs while the editor remains open (i.e., editor is not tied to the tab you initially opened it in.
  • A small icon is always visible in the Firefox status bar so that you can start writing post with one click of the mouse.
  • You can also categorize your posts form the four tabs present at the right side of the editor.
  • You can view the previously written posts (even those that you posted directly prior to using ScribeFire) in the history tab.
  • You can also save your writing as notes which are also visible in the notes tab.
So to wrap-up the discussion I would say that you bloggers must get it and see for yourself how it makes your life so much more bearable.

Did you get any error code when configuring Blogger into ScribeFire? It tells me that there was an error and needs to be reflected to the author at Scribefire.
